What to expect when you receive your new axe

All Snow and Nealley axes are hand-assembled and finished in a small craftsman’s shop. You can expect the grain of the axe handle and the texture of the leather sheath to vary from the picture in this listing. In addition, there may be slight variations in the finish on the head.

Snow and Nealley gives each axe head a clearcoat finish to prevent rust during shipping. The finish will come off during sharpening and use. This is normal.

Axe heads are hand-tempered and hand-ground. They are shipped sharp enough to cut, but without the final edge that many users will prefer. You may add the final touches according to your preference with a file, grinding stone, or grinding wheel.

I’ve had my 2-1/4 pound axe for 2 months now, and it has been worth every penny. As expected the edge grind was not great out of the box, but after sharpening, the axe cuts very well. I like the lighter weight as it allows me to generate more head speed with less effort. I have been clearing growth along the stone walls that border my property, and this tool has been invaluable. I have used it to fell several small ~6″ diameter cherry trees. Not only is it good exercise, it is oddly satisfying to bring down a somewhat substantial tree using a traditional tool.
I’m looking forward to ordering the Hudson Bay axe for camping this coming autumn.

I wasxgifted one of these axes a few years back and have used it throughout the years, each year, many times. I’ve cleared limbs from felled trees and it has been a constant companion when cutting my firewood (juniper, piñon, and ponderosa) each year. I keep it sharp and oiled and it is simply perfect. The right size, weight, and construction. Super easy to move around as I cut and serves its purpose well. I pound wedges with it as the final step tocfelling a tree, tap wedges when bucking, clear lims and bark. It’s a utility tool that is literally perfect for the task. This axe will last my lifetime and I’m not just happy, but proud to pack it along and carry it for work or personal use. Thanks for resurecting this brand, thanks for making this quality tool here in the United States. It means a lot to own and use a tool such as this. If you read this and wonder if you should purchase….do. It is a well made tool of unquestionable quality and usefulness.
