Description

The Hudson Bay Axe’s signature head shape may have originated in northern Spain, but it was enthusiastically adopted by trappers, hunters, and fishermen on expeditions along the Hudson Bay. Today, whether pounding tent stakes or more traditional uses, the Hudson Bay axe is a favorite of outdoor enthusiasts. Featuring a 1-3/4 lb. American steel head on a 24″ select American hickory handle, this axe includes a genuine leather blade guard. Since Snow & Nealley changed hands several years ago, the Hudson Bay axe is once again hand-finished in a craftsman’s shop in northern Maine.

What to expect when you receive your new axe

All Snow and Nealley axes are hand-assembled and finished in a small craftsman’s shop. You can expect the grain of the axe handle and the texture of the leather guard to vary from the picture in this listing. In addition, there may be slight variations in the finish on the head.

Snow and Nealley gives each axe head a clearcoat finish to prevent rust during shipping. The finish will come off during sharpening and use. This is normal.

Axe heads are hand-tempered and hand-ground. They are shipped sharp enough to cut, but without the final edge that many users will prefer. You may add the final touches according to your preference with a file, grinding stone, or grinding wheel.

Shipping was extremely fast ! The axe came very well packaged! Its a great kindling splitter and has no problem splitting some decent sized rounds. It has a great weight to it and could easily be carried for long periods of time , love it and can’t wait to put it to more use !

A very handy size and weight. Built well, think forever tool to last decades. I dressed the edge on a Ken Onion Work sharp and in 10 minutes it is shave hair sharp and it holds an edge after a few 8” Ash logs. Up-close and after handling, this is a bargain for the price. You guys build a nice Axe, Thank you!

I purchased this camp axe for Bushcraft work. Wow!!! once I did the finishing the sharpening, it is an incredible axe!! I plan on purchasing at least 2-3 more. Each of my sons need one!! The blade is sharp, but I require all my blades to be sharp enough to shave. It took me 15 minutes and she was there. The craftmanship is world class!!! compared to the German made for the 10-15 minutes you will take to sharpen it; you can purchase 2-3 of the Snow and Nealley and have 2-3 world class axes instead of 1. Must Have!!!
